Riding along the GPS route on the phone screen, north of Phang Nga town, not far away, we began to enter the Khao Nang Hong area, a mountain range that separates Mueang Phang Nga District from Thap Put District before heading to Krabi Province. Before riding the motorbike up to the viewpoint, we stopped to pay respect to the Goddess of Khao Nang Hong first for good fortune, safe travels, prosperity in business, and a beautiful and lovely girlfriend. This is just a Thai belief.
As for the legend of Khao Nang Hong, once upon a time there were two men named Mr. Tao and Mr. Thao (meaning in Thai language is Old man). Both who were close friends. Mr. Tao had a beautiful daughter named Nang Hong. He knew that Mr. Thao was handsome and had a good personality not old as his name. So he agreed to give his daughter to him. On the auspicious day, Mr. Thao send the gift to ask for Nang Hong in marriage. Nang Hong was not happy and thought that he was an old man, so she threw the gift away. The gift turned into a mountain called Khan Mak mountain. Mr. Tao was angry with his daughter and kicked the wok over, which turned into Krata Kwam mountain. The wedding was cancelled because of this misunderstanding.
Many days later, Nang Hong went to a party and secretly saw Mr. Thao and was shocked because Mr Thao was still young and handsome, not old like his name. She was very sad. When she returned home quickly prepared rice and flowers and went to ask for Mr. Thao forgiveness and agreed to marry him. But he was still angry so scolded Nang Hong, which made Nang Hong feel very ashamed. She hurriedly ran back home crying until she fell on her side and died in the middle of the forest, which became Nang Hong mountain until today.
From the Khao Nang Hong viewpoint, we followed Phetkasem Road towards Krabi Province. We parked the car and walked to Wat Khiriwong, a quiet forest temple on the Khao Nang Hong route. The entrance to the temple truly on a mountain because we had to walk through a hole to get inside. It turned out that there were many large trees inside and a standing Buddha statue. Upon entering, we felt a special sense of tranquility.
