But you cant see the view for free because this viewpoint prohibits driving any type of vehicle up the mountain by yourself (even motorcycles are prohibited) for safety reasons. The route up to the viewpoint is still a gravel road, full of potholes, some parts are very steep, and there are no roadside barriers along the way up the mountain. Therefore, there is a shared taxi service for 90 baht per person, which is included in the price for both the up and down trips.
On top of the viewpoint, there is a shop serving food and drinks and a camping ground. How long you stay once you get there depends on your mood. The word Samet Nang Chee, or what the locals call Ban Met Nang Chee, from a local myth that says this village there was an old monk living at Khao Phra Aat Thao and a young monk living at Khao Phra Aat Noom. Near the viewpoint, there was a nun living there. Every time she went to see the two monks. She had to walk through a canal. The nun had to fold her cloth up ("Met" in local language meaning turn the edge of the cloth up) to prevent the cloth from getting wet. This is the origin of the word Met Nang Chee, which later became Samet Nang Chee in the present. The name Khao Phra Aat came from the two monks saw the nun, So they feel horny. In the local language, it is called “Aat”.
