Nua Satay Tai Ton Khoi, Delicious Chiang Mai with a Hundred Years of Street Food, has been selling since grandfather was young and handsome, or even when grandmother was still young. It has been selling for 2-3 generations. The seller said it's been over a hundred years. For Nua Satay Tai Ton Khoi, they set up low tables and chairs along the roadside. Both the tables and chairs are old, as if they have been used for decades.
When I arrived, the seller was grilling the satay with a fragrant aroma. A younger man was sitting and eating, saying, "If you come late, you won't get to eat it. It's all gone." I ordered 15 sticks to eat as a snack this morning, totaling 105 baht.
As soon as we ordered, they put a plate of A-jad and dipping sauce for the meat. They take the marinated satay from the plastic bag and grill it fresh right then and there. It sells for 7 baht per stick, which is not expensive at all for the price of marinated beef with side dishes and dipping sauce. It's fun to sit and eat on low chairs like this. The marinated meat is slightly sweet, and the dipping sauce is sweet and spicy, similar to pork satay.
Oh, they used to have a second branch near Nimmanhaemin Road, but it closed a long time ago. Don't bother going there. If you really want to try it, head towards Montfort College. You're guaranteed to eat the delicious hundred-year-old satay of Chiang Mai.
