Mining Museum Learning Center, have fun traveling in Kathu District. I've wanted to come to the Mining Museum since my last trip to Phuket. This trip was fulfilling because during the Covid-19 epidemic, the Mining Museum was not open for the safety of tourists.
Seeing this pink building, you can be sure you've come to the right place. In front of the museum building, which used to be an old colonial mansion, there are large rocks in glass cabinets displaying the characteristics of tin ore.
In one place, you can learn about the history and background of the mining industry in the South, which began with tin mining even before the establishment of Ayutthaya, especially the stories of the pioneers and those who contributed to the Thai tin mining business, who together created a page in the history of the southern provinces.
The museum creates an understanding of the types of mining (hydraulic mining, panning, dredging), simulating mining operations inside the old building that has become a museum today, taking visitors through different eras, including the first tin mining dredge in the world that was built in Phuket Province in 1908, or during the reign of King Rama V.
